PUSHLiving Wheelchair Lifestyle Videos: Biking for Cardio, Upper Body Exercise and Fresh Air!

PUSHLiving Wheelchair Lifestyle Videos presents Deborah J. Davis demonstrating how biking is an excellent workout option for those with spinal cord injuries.

Biking works many different muscles and helps to get you outside in the fresh air. It’s great for cardio, and it’s also an excellent upper body workout.  If you don’t have access to a bike, many gyms have bike machines that mimic the same movements as riding a bike.

Pro Tips:

  1. Get a bike ride tracker app. We recommend Map My Ride. It helps you keep track of your mileage and see your progress as you grow stronger.
  2. Prop your bike against something when transferring from your wheelchair. Deborah uses her Braun Entervan.
  3. Never leave for a ride without your cell phone, you want to be able to call for help if needed.
  4. Using a wheelchair strap is recommended, just in case.
  5. For those of you who suffer from low blood pressure, drink a lot of water before, during, and after your ride to keep your blood pressure up.
  6. If you don’t currently have a bike, there are many styles available on Bike-On.com
